2nd Preparation of Measuring Instruments

After marking the grid the inclination measuring instrument must be placed on the object to be measured as shown below. For the flatness measurement first the longitudinal lines are measured and then the transversal lines. For reasons of measuring accuracy it is recommended to work with a measuring and a reference unit (differential or reference measurement)

For reference measurement (differential measurements) with two instruments it is important, that

  • the reference unit must always be aligned precisely in the same direction as the measuring unit
  • during a flatness measurement according to the principles of WYLER / DIN 876 the reference unit must not be moved until all measurement of all longitudinal lines resp. transversal lines have been completed

Ideally the flatness measurement is executed with a set of instruments of 2 BlueLEVEL or 2 BlueLEVEL BASIC, connected through a BlueMETER to a PC or Laptop.

The use of two instruments is (differential measurement) recommended in order to eliminate external influences and sources of error, such as vibrations, instability of the measuring object, etc.
